Interviewed on NPR’s AirTalk Radio About Banning Medically Unnecessary Surgeries on Intersex Minors

Big thanks to NPR LA’s AirTalk w/ @LarryMantle–the award-winning public affairs show airing weekdays 10a-12p on 89.3 KPCC–for having me on to discuss intersex activists’ call for a ban on medically unnecessary surgeries on intersex minors, aka Intersex Genital Mutilation (IGM).

I open the 19 minute segment, “Should Surgery on Intersex Children Be Banned?” and come back with a rebuttal at the end to the doctor who advocates for allowing parents the option to perform IGM.

Interesting fact: At approx. 1.7% of the population, Intersex people are as common as red-heads. “Everyone’s met an intersex person, you just may not know you have.”
