I’m thrilled to hear that my first non-fiction short story, “SOS Sex,” one of seventeen short stories in the Akashic noir anthology, Santa Fe Noir (March 1, 2020), was singled out as a “highlight” in an early review by Publisher’s Weekly.
“One highlight is Hida Viloria’s “SOS Sex,” a traditional crime story in which a property appraiser stumbles onto a sex trafficking racket that ties to a long-ago family tragedy of his own.”
My story was inspired by an eery, disturbing experience I had while living in Santa Fe, which editor Ariel Gore’s excellent introduction notes is perhaps more fittingly called, “The Land of Entrapment” than its tourist slogan, “The Land of Enchantment.” Fortunately, as the palm tree far in the foreground of the picture of my advance copy reveals, I made it out and am no longer a resident!
