Most societies still have a hard time openly incorporating intersex people into their culture. This workshop gets real about the resistance to admitting that hermaphrodites (our original, cultural label) exist, why so few of us are out — even in places where many “LGBT” people are — and the importance of establishing an Intersex cultural identity within the LGBTI community and beyond. Includes Q&A and viewing of the trailer for award-winning intersex documentary “Intersexion.” Hida Viloria is an intersex activist and writer who has written and spoken extensively about Intersex on television, film, print, and as a lecturer. She is Chairperson of the Organisation Intersex International (OII), the largest intersex organization in the world, and Director of OII USA. Claudia Astorino is an intersex activist living in NYC. She is the Associate Director of Organization Intersex International’s US chapter, blogs about intersex on *Full-Frontal Activism: Intersex and Awesome*, and has workshopped on various intersex topics at NYU, Bluestockings, UC Davis, and the Wooden Shoe.
